Album Review: Levy & The Oaks – Self-Titled

Levy-and-the-Oaks-Self-Titled
Levy & The Oaks hail from the live music mecca of Asbury Park, New Jersey. They present their melodic indie pop sounds coupled with lyrics that are smoother than your favorite locally brewed coffee. The band is comprised of Duane Okun (singer, guitarist), Lou Panico (bassist, singer), Chris Colon (slide guitar, singer), and Ryan McNulty (drums). Together, they bring you songs that resonate no matter where you are in life. Inspired by Nirvana, Death Cab for Cutie, and Simon and Garfunkel, this emerging band is sure to end up on your Most Played Songs list.

Levy & The Oaks is a band that take you back in time, traveling through your deepest memories. Each song on their debut self-titled record, released in October 2016, brings you on that heartfelt journey. Songs like “Girls First Baby” and “Father’s Watch” create feelings of nostalgia. Their single and first video is for “Slowly in the Water,” a track that highlights all the dynamic components of the band. The beautiful harmonies and smooth sounds of the slide guitar bring you deeper into the music. “You Had Me There” rounds out the album with a stinging guitar riff that mixes classic blues with pop punk.

Levy & The Oaks have played local NJ shows acoustically as well as full-band electric gigs. Either way, their unique sounds transcends every indie-pop stereotype. Check out the entire album on Spotify, and watch their music video for “Slowly in the Water” on YouTube. Follow them on Facebook and Instagram to keep up with shows and the exciting new music they have in store for us.
