Album Review: Grey Goes Black – And Inside There Was Only Water

May 25, 2017 by Philiana Vedad Leave a Comment

Grey-Goes-Black-And-Inside-There-Was-Only-Water
Grey Goes Black‘s new album And Inside There Was Only Water is a beautiful collection of alternative rock music and intense lyricism. “Wish,” the first track and also a spoken word piece narrated by NYC/NJ singer-songwriter Foxanne, is a strong start. It features deep poetry paired with electronic tunes. You can feel the pain in Foxanne’s words, an agony that permeates the album.

Powerful vocals from Matt Casoni fit the expressive vibe of And Inside There Was Only Water, and the last track, in particular, gave me chills. Contrasting with the darkness of other songs, “Helpless” has a positive message – don’t feel helpless because everyone is willing to help you. The song made me smile and left me amazed as it ends with the line, “And inside, there was only water” – a genius decision encompassing the message of the album. We look forward to seeing what’s next for this refreshing New Jersey band!
