This NYC three-piece is down and dirty basic rock. Between the Rain is reminiscent of 90’s alternative bands like Systematic, Stone Temple Pilots, and Temple of the Dog. Tim Donlon’s clean, wailing vocals make for great contrast with his high gain, drop-tuned guitar.
I listened to “Mudroom” by Between the Rain about 15 times. There’s a familiarity in the vocals; I’m thinking Maynard James Keenan or maybe Dexter Holland from The Offspring.
“44” on the other hand is a horse of a different color, using punk drum lines and palm mutes. Remnants of Ignite and Bad Religion are felt throughout the song.
I’d be very excited to get my hands on more material or a full length from BTR to see where their sound takes them. Will they stay on the rock side, go full-on punk, or float somewhere in between? No matter what, this band definitely knows how to write catchy tunes!
