Punk rock music videos are often defined by a number of things. Whether it be killer solos, an absolutely wild crowd, or of course, a good-old jam in the garage, these types of videos are very much characterized by lots of action and intensity. The latest video from NJ pop-punk outfit Idle Wave subverts that tradition with an intimate unplugged session of their latest single “Heaven Knows.” The video, which was recorded live by local videographer/photographer Kris Khunachak, showcases lead vocalist Guy Battaglia in a stripped-down setting accompanied by a lush and gorgeous piano accompaniment by composer David Ross Lawn. The video’s simplicity and elegance are surprising and allow viewers to gain a deeper emotional connection to the song. Battaglia’s raw and authentic performance is compelling to watch in real-time. The addition of David Ross Lawn on piano is a unique one yet welcome, as it adds a layer of sophistication and dimension to the track. Credit also to director Kris Khunachak for the fluid and graceful presentation, allowing strong emphasis on the emotion of the material.
